THE XII STEP CLUB: A BRIEF HISTORY AND INTRODUCTION

The Alano Club 28 was founded in Centralia, WA in 1985 and was incorporated on April 28, 1986, in the State of Washington as a registered nonprofit corporation. Since that time, the name was changed to the XII Step Club of Lewis County, as the scope of our service was expanded to include all Twelve Step groups that follow the original format pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous.

Our Mission is to provide a safe and sober facility for the person in recovery to socialize and attend various Twelve Step meetings.

The original members of the Club felt the need for a permanent meeting place for their respective groups, as well as a place where members could go for coffee, conversation and fellowship. In Lewis County, a recovering individual’s options are rather limited when they want to socialize in their newfound way of living. Under the provisions of our Charter and By-Laws the supportive services, activities, and facilities that the Club can offer are limited only by the voice of the Club members.

Currently we have 144 meetings monthly. Some of the groups that have met here include: Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, Narcotics-, Emotions-, Nicotine-, Marijuana-, and Gambling Anonymous as well as two Spanish AA meetings. Our last survey concluded over 2000 attendees meeting here every month.

In addition to the several meeting rooms we provide, our services include:

seminars on recovery and health issues,
a lending library with recovery related books, audio and video tapes,
providing meeting possibilities for various XII Step Organizations at State and district levels,
several Community based outreach organizations also use our facilities.

Our social area provides a “snack bar”, seating areas, TV, pool table, and other recreational activities. The Club’s social calendar offers:

several free holiday banquets,

annual picnics and camp outs,

pool and cribbage tournaments,
karaoke, movies as well as dances

All social events are family oriented where parents and their children are encouraged to attend.
